An Overview of the 2008 Cathedral Golf Open

A Day in Review

We would like to thank all the sponsors, contributors, players, volunteers and especially the McGeady Family, our lead sponsor of the Cathedral Open once again this year. We appreciate their continued and generous support as our Major Sponsor. Please support and visit our sponsors’ link.

This year’s outing was held on Monday September 22 at the Elkridge Club in Baltimore, Maryland. We were blessed with a perfect day, sunshine and moderate temperatures, a plus for golfers. The event was sold out again this year with approximately 124 golfers coming out to play. Before tee off at 12:30pm, Father Louis Bianco offered a blessing for the golfers. Sr. Josephann Wagoner, Principal, did the ceremonial first putt on the 18th hole by the clubhouse. Golfers finished their boxed lunches and headed to their carts to tee off promptly at 12:30.

There were several contest winners this year. Closest to the Pin $500 cash prize at Hole #13 was won by Parent Dan Winner. Closest to the pin winners at Holes #4, Mark Foster; #8, Ms. Sandy Taylor; and #17, Ms. Diane Davis won $50 Pro-Shop credit. The Longest Drive Men- $50 Pro-Shop credit Hole #12- Geoff Carey. Longest Drive Women- $50 Pro-Shop Credit Hole#3 Ms. Laura Tiburzi

Between the refreshments on and off the course, cigars, groans of near misses and cheers for great shots, all the golfers had a great time! After the play concluded, golfers gathered at the clubhouse for cold beverages and tasty hors’douvres. Delicious treats included crab dip, a beef carving station and passed bruschetta, meatballs and chicken skewers!

John Boote awarded the raffle and door prizes and contest winners to the enthusiastic crowd. You can read all the winners  on the website.

Once again, we would like to thank everyone who contributed in some way this year to make this outing a success! We thank the golf committee members and Chairs Pat Franklin and John Boote for their hard work and effort; especially Mike McGeady, John Blaze, and the Development office. Final numbers will be posted shortly for the funds that will go towards our School Endowment Fund.

Congratulations to all of our winners and we hope to see you again next year!
