Summer Work 2024-2025
Summer work is now available! At the School of the Cathedral, we believe that summer is a crucial time to keep our students engaged in learning, to prevent the “summer slide.” This summer slide can be avoided by ensuring that children are practicing the skills they learned last year so they are ready for the new school year!
Below is the summer work for each grade level. Please have the work completed by the date listed by each grade level in the below PDFs. A few notes:
- Please read and complete ALL documents under each grade level.
- Exception: the student only needs to complete Xavier OR Drexel, if both are indicated.
- New students should complete the “Drexel” assignment if Drexel and Xavier are both listed. Once Drexel work has been completed and your child is willing, he/she can try the Xavier assignments.
- Students who were at Cathedral this past school year and were already in Drexel or Xavier should complete the same level for their incoming grade (or as advised by the teacher/Administrator).
- For example, an incoming 5th grader who was in Drexel for 4th grade should complete the Drexel work listed under “Incoming 5th Grade.”
- “This year” refers to the 2024-25 school year.
- Exception: the student only needs to complete Xavier OR Drexel, if both are indicated.
- Students in Primary are strongly encouraged to get a library card. Students in Grades 3-8 are required to get a library card due to various research assignments. Here’s how to do so at Enoch Pratt Library (for all Maryland residents).
- Want more ideas for books to read? Check out these Suggested Summer Reading Lists!
- If you have questions, please contact one of the teachers for your child’s incoming grade level. The teacher’s contact information is listed on each respective “About Summer Math Work” or “Summer Reading” link below.
Thank you!
Incoming Pre-K4 and Kindergarten
There is no assigned summer work that is to be handed in for Pre-4 and Kindergarten students, but we encourage reading with your child both at home with books and through environmental print to make reading fun and meaningful. If you are in need of book recommendations, we encourage visiting your local library!

School Supplies List
Every class at the School of the Cathedral uses Google Classroom to create a robust, technologically-advanced classroom experience. Teachers post announcements, assignments, and questions on their Google Classroom site, and students complete and submit work directly in the class’ site.
Students will be enrolled into Google Classroom. Parents can elect to sign up to receive daily or weekly email summaries of class activities, due dates, and missing work. Please contact your child’s teacher for more information. Once a student or parent has logged in once (if applicable), access Google Classroom here.
